The mascot name is the Red Raider and the colors are maroon & gray. Current enrollment is over 3,500 students. History Lowell, Massachusetts was incorporated as a town in 1826 and Lowell High School opened shortly after in 1831. One of its earliest homes was a small brick building on Middlesex Street owned by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company. Lowell High School was the first and remains the oldest desegregated public high school in the United States; African American Caroline Van Vronker was a student at Lowell High School in 1843, at a time when every other public high school in the United States was segregated. The South Fork Catawba River borders Lowell on the north, and the city is part of the Cramerton Watershed. History Lowell was incorporated in 1879. Lowell High School (LHS) is a co-educational, magnet public high school in San Francisco, California, first established in 1856. It is a part of the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). Situated on the West Side of the city, the school is south of Parkmerced and the Parkside district, west of Stonestown Galleria, north of San Francisco State University, northeast of Lake Merced, and east of Lakeshore Elementary School. LHS uses merit-based admissions, unlike other schools in the district, which use a lottery system or receive students from a specified attendance area.
